John Collins (b. 1979) is an artist and handyman residing in Los Angeles. He earned his BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he focused on painting, drawing and etching. His most well-known works are his nightly baseball drawing series called Moonlight Graham, which use brushwork and ink washes to depict a favorite play every day for the duration of the 7-month baseball season. For John, baseball transcends game and sport and lives more in the realm of spiritual obsession. Thousands of these works have been produced and hundreds are included in art collections worldwide.
John’s art practice outside of the baseball season reflects an introspective artist making work that is seeking to hide itself. He garnered some attention with work made using untraditional surfaces, namely salvaged materials from handyman jobs. These works were figurative, autobiographical and somewhat allegorical oil paintings on scraps of linoleum tile, chunks of stucco and concrete and tattered bits of discarded fabric; and appeared in a group show at the Berlin-based art space, Rosalux.
